For field officials

Field events, measured and on the scoreboard in seconds

PolyField is an app for the officials at each pit, circle and runway, and a results server for the whole meet. It connects to your EDM and runs on a dedicated Wi-Fi network. Use the app on its own, or with the server.

Field events live board: James Carter, senior men's shot put, 18.42 metres in first place, with long jump, high jump and a shot put foul below

How it works

Measure once, and it's everywhere

  1. The EDM

Measures where the throw or jump lands. No tapes, no numbers called across the field.

  2. The app

The official confirms each attempt on a tablet: mark or foul, wind, bar height.

  3. The server

Collects every event at the meet over a dedicated local network. Internet is only needed to link with your competition management system.

  4. Everywhere

Scoreboards, announcers and results update as soon as an attempt is confirmed.

It links with OpenTrack and Athletics App, downloads start lists from Roster Athletics, and feeds PolyField Displays screens.

Network requirements

  • A network of its own. Run PolyField on a dedicated network, separate from any guest or public Wi-Fi at the stadium.
  • Devices must see each other. The network can't isolate devices (often called client or AP isolation) or split them into separate segments. App devices talk to PolyField Server, and screens talk to PolyField & Track Displays or Server, directly over the local network.
  • Internet is optional. PolyField Server only needs it to link with your competition management system. PolyField & Track Displays never needs it.

Key features

Built for the officials on the field

  • Calibration wizard

Step by step: set the circle centre, check the edge against UK Athletics and World Athletics tolerance, then mark the sector line.

  • Multiple-event calibration

Calibrate several events and choose the right one for each. Javelin next to a discus and hammer circle? Calibrate all three up front and save the stress later.

  • Multiple jump boards

Calibrate every take-off board before the competition, then measure accurately from each with no mental maths. Long and triple jump, all boards in, once.

  • Accessible

Clear colours, large text and an optional voice read-out that speaks each result: bib, name, round and distance.

Internationally published

PolyField in IEEE Software

The engineering behind PolyField is published in IEEE Software, the international magazine of the IEEE Computer Society. The article explains how PolyField brings EDMs, apps, scoreboards and competition systems together into one real-time measurement system for track and field.

Heat maps

Every landing, mapped

The EDM measures where each throw lands, so every mark is plotted in the sector, athlete by athlete, with fouls alongside.

Coming to OpenTrack. OpenTrack will support these heat maps for meets run with PolyField.

With PolyField & Track Displays

Field events, live on the big screen

Officials record each attempt once, on a PolyField tablet or EDM. Athletes and spectators see it seconds later.

  • High jump board with the bar at 1.80 metres, each athlete's attempts, and who is still in

    High jump and pole vault

The bar, every attempt and who is still in, with an animated reveal at each new height.

  • Long jump ruler from 11 to 17 metres showing the current mark of 13.42 metres against the top three and the average

    Long and triple jump

A ruler anchored to the pit, showing each mark against the top three and the average.

  • Big-screen board for the senior men's hammer final: Mark Dry, Woodford Green, round 4, 64.16 metres, 8th, best 65.19 metres, beside the landing map

    Throws

Every landing plotted in the sector, the competition best with a NEW BEST banner, and each athlete's round, position and best.
